Explore the great outdoors

Head outside and breathe in the fresh sea air. The South West Coast Path is right on our doorstep, with the golden sands of Fistral Beach just steps away from The Esplanade. Go for a windswept stroll or a spot of rockpooling, and wander round to Newquay town to soak up the local sights. For a mix of heritage and exercise, pick up a copy of the Newquay Discovery Trail from the Newquay Tourist Information Centre. This marked walk guides you through the history of our coastal town. Keep your eyes peeled for the slate discs marking key points of interest along the way.

For a different view, turn left out of The Esplanade and pick up the South West Coast Path around the Pentire Headland to explore the stunning Gannel Estuary and Crantock Beach (be sure to make a note of the tide times!)

Family attractions in Newquay

Newquay is bursting with family-friendly attractions that remain open all year round. Meet the exotic residents of Newquay Zoo, discover life beneath the waves at Blue Reef Aquarium, or tee off at Pirate's Quest Adventure Golf. For a full day of excitement, head to Lappa Valley, a hidden world of play and trains featuring indoor soft play, outdoor adventures, and scenic railway rides.

This February half term, love is in the air at the Eden Project. Between 14th and 22nd February 2026, join the celebrations inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s picture book The Scarecrows' Wedding. Help with preparations, get creative with crafts, and dance the day away at the wedding party in the Mediterranean Biome.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (approx. 20 miles/45-minute drive from The Esplanade Hotel)

Reconnect with nature at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Meet the animals at Home Farm during February half term, explore the winding woodland trails, or lace up your skates at the Neon Jungle roller rink for some retro fun.
