Summer in Newquay: What’s On for 2025
Summer has arrived on the Cornish coast, and here at The Esplanade Hotel, we’re perfectly positioned to enjoy the very best of Newquay. Whether you’re planning a week of seaside adventure, visiting for a special event, or simply soaking up the sun, there’s an exciting calendar of events and experiences waiting just beyond our doors.
From world-class music festivals and vibrant local markets to scenic coastal walks and family-friendly attractions, here’s everything you need to know about what’s on in and around Newquay this summer.
Life on Fistral Beach
Newquay draws visitors from far and wide for its legendary surf culture, and with world-famous Fistral Beach right on our doorstep, it’s easy to see why. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced surfer, Quiksilver Surf School offers lessons and equipment hire for all ages and skill levels.
Not into surfing? There’s plenty more to enjoy - try stand-up paddleboarding, relax on the golden sands, or explore the breath taking coastal path on foot.
As the day winds down, why not head to our sister hotel, Fistral Beach Hotel, for their popular Sundowner Sessions? Every Saturday from 7pm to 11pm, you can unwind with live DJs or live music, drinks in hand, and uninterrupted views of the ocean.
Boadmasters Festival: 6th to 10th August
For those seeking bigger events, Boardmasters Festival is Newquay’s premier summer celebration. This iconic festival brings together five days of live music at Watergate Bay alongside world-class surf competitions on Fistral Beach - a true festival of coastal culture that’s not to be missed.
Family-Friendly Fun
Newquay is packed with activities for families. Spend a day at Newquay Zoo, home to hundreds of fascinating animals, or explore the marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium.
Looking for something a little different? The Seaside Cinema at Lusty Glaze Beach offers outdoor film screenings of family favourites and blockbusters right on the sand.
And of course, beaches like Porth and Crantock are perfect for paddling, sandcastle-building, and relaxing in the sun.
Explore the Local Markets
Experience Newquay’s vibrant community spirit at the monthly markets:
- BIG Newquay Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month at Killacourt, featuring over 50 stalls of local crafts, food, live music, and workshops.
- Newquay Farmers Market is held on the third Saturday of each month at Project 83, offering fresh produce, artisan treats, baked goods, and more.
Coastal Walks Worth Taking
Newquay’s stunning coastline offers some of the best walks in Cornwall. Our favourites include:
- Fistral to Crantock Beach - a wild and scenic route along the Gannel Estuary.
- Towan Headland Loop - a short walk with expansive ocean views.
- Pentire Headland - a longer clifftop trek ideal for spotting local wildlife.
Nearby Attractions
For a quieter day, discover the nearby Trerice Manor, a beautiful Elizabethan house managed by the National Trust. Its pretty gardens and charming tea room make for a perfect relaxing escape. Throughout the year, Trerice hosts a range of events for both adults and children, so check their schedule when planning your visit.
Your Base by the Sea
From festival-goers and surfers to families and walkers, The Esplanade Hotel offers the perfect seaside base to enjoy everything Newquay has to offer this summer.
