Unleash the Fun: Dog Friendly Stays
Make your next getaway extra special by bringing your furry friend along for the adventure! There are plenty of dog-friendly options to ensure your pup has as much fun as you do.
Forget the kennels, the whole family can enjoy a Cornish holiday at The Esplanade Hotel – dogs included! Newquay, and the rest of Cornwall, is an extremely dog-friendly destination with beaches, coast paths, and places to play perfect for pooches of all sizes.
Many Cornish residents have a pet dog or two and it is a way of life for lots of people. On beaches you’ll spot early morning dog walkers meeting up to chat whilst their pooches play amongst themselves. Most bars and restaurants are happy to host four-legged friends, including Cove Restaurant at The Esplanade Hotel. Whilst lots of independent shops also allow pooches to join their owners inside and have little peruse.
The majority of Cornwall’s beaches are dog-friendly year round; however, we recommend checking if the beach you have in mind has any restrictions before heading off.
Tails wagging? Here are our top dog-friendly things to do in and around Newquay and The Esplanade Hotel.
Crantock Beach
From The Esplanade Hotel walk over the headland, down the Fern Pit Café foot path and jump on the little ferry crossing to Crantock Beach. This National Trust beach is dog friendly year-round and has a tidal river for pups and little ones to play in and cool down when the Cornish sun gets too hot. Huge sand dunes hug the beach and at low tide explorers can take a walk down The Gannel Estuary, a sanctuary of wildlife and greenery.
Trenance Crazy Golf and Gardens
For some good old vintage fun head down to the beautiful Trenance Gardens. Pick up your putters and golf balls at the little kiosk and head out onto this quaint crazy golf green. Overflowing with foliage and flowers providing shade for dogs, it’s fun for all the family. Just be sure to keep your pooch on their lead as they’ll be after those golf balls! Afterwards take a walk through the historic Trenance Gardens and get a cream tea in the old fisherman’s cottages, now home to The Garden Café.
Newquay Harbour
Pups can swim alongside you in Newquay Harbour when the tide is high or enjoy a good sniff around when the sea has drawn out of this working fishing port. A small beach, bar and collection of food trucks surround the harbour, and of course there’s an ice cream van too. Spot the seal who plays in these waters and watch the boats roll in to this working historic harbour where Newquay’s gets its name from.
The Road Train
Well behaved and leashed four-pawed family members can board Newquay’s famous Road Train. The blue and yellow land train, like those you can find in Italian seaside destinations, loops Newquay on a 1-hour trip and a hop on/hop off ticket means you can alight whenever you like. Capture a pic of your pooch on this fun ride around our seaside town.
It's no secret that here at The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay that we love dogs! We realise that your dog is an important member of the family, and we know how hard it can be to leave your beloved four-legged friend at home when you set off for a family holiday in Cornwall. Which is why we welcome all well-behaved hounds…
There is a selection of dog-friendly rooms with outside access for convenience. Pooches will feel pampered with a dog bed and a food and water bowl provided for them during their stay.
