NEWQUAY DISCOVERY TRAIL
Uncover the stories of our seaside town on an adventure the whole family can enjoy with the Newquay Discovery Trail. Designed as a self-guided walking route, the trail brings local history to life through a series of slate discs set into the ground at key points of interest across Newquay.
Each circular slate marker is numbered and corresponds with a simple map, allowing you to pause, read fascinating facts and take in sweeping coastal views along the way. It’s an easy, engaging way to explore Newquay without a car, and children will love the idea of following clues from one stop to the next.
Begin at Disc 1 on the Killacourt, overlooking Towan Beach, with one of Newquay’s most recognisable views. The trail then splits into two walks: Hetty and Ada, named after the last fully laden schooners to use Newquay Harbour.
THE HETTY TRAIL: DISCS 2 TO 8 (approximately 1 ½ hours)
The Hetty Trail follows a mostly coastal route, taking in highlights such as the Harbour, the iconic house at Towan Beach known as ‘The Island’, Huer’s Hut, the Headland Hotel, and the wide sands of Fistral Beach. Expect dramatic sea views, historic landmarks and plenty of opportunities to stop and explore.
THE ADA TRAIL: DISCS 9 TO 14 (approximately 2 hours)
The Ada Trail combines coastline with greener inland spaces, winding past the railway station, family favourites including Newquay Zoo and the Leisure Park, and through Trenance Gardens and The Boating Lake, offering space to picnic, play and pause. Follow the route to the River Gannel Estuary then back to Marcus Hill for the final leg of your journey.
Whether you complete one route or both, the Discovery Trail reveals a side of Newquay many visitors never notice: a town shaped by fishing, industry and the sea.
A Discover Trail Map costs just £2. Purchase your copy from the Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre on Marcus Hill, TR7 1BD, or order a copy for £2 + P&P.
