The Esplanade Hotel Blog
Every little helps this Earth Day
22nd April marks Earth Day, and this year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet”, encouraging small daily actions wherever possible where you live and work to contribute to environmental progress.
The beach is our playground, and it’s important that we take care of these beautiful spaces for generations to come.
Sometimes, it’s as simple as a two-minute clean-up. As the saying goes: take only memories, leave only footprints.
At The Esplanade, our Beach Clean Station is available in the hotel so you can get involved and help make a difference to our wonderful beaches.
Whether you’re heading out to the beach for a stroll or a swim, you can make an impact in just a couple of minutes. A quick tidy as you leave helps stop plastic and other waste from washing back into the sea and protects local wildlife.
- Stop by the Beach Clean Station in the lobby
- Grab a litter pick
- Take a bag
- Pick up any bits of litter
- Bin it
What to look out for
- Plastic wrappers and bottle caps
- Cans and glass bottles (only if safe to handle)
- Takeaway cups, straws and cutlery
- Fishing line or small rope (avoid handling hooks or anything embedded or tangled)
Do not touch sharp objects, medical waste, or anything that looks hazardous. Inform someone such as a lifeguard, the RNLI or Cornwall Council. And if you’re picking up in sensitive areas (like dunes), please stay on paths and avoid disturbing plants or nesting spots.
Do be careful when picking up litter on the beach and supervise children at all times.
Thank you for doing your part this Earth Day. Every small action adds up.
